Massachusetts Bay Recreational Fishing & Boating

This site is dedicated to boating, fishing and general recreation in the Massachusetts Bay area and Atlantic Ocean.  My vessel, Riptide, a 2002 Trophy 2302WA powered by a 200hp Mercury EFI outboard, is well equip for most outings.  She resides in Green Harbor, MA as does my family and home.  We make full use of our location during the summer visiting sand bars and beaches up and down the coast, places you could never get to without a boat.  Fishing Stellwagen Bank for Bluefin tuna and hauling lobster traps has become somewhat of an obsession.

Massachusetts voters speak and the world listens! On January 19th Massachusetts seized the opportunity to change the direction of the country by electing Scott Brown to the US Senate.  Our voices were heard loud and clear and I was very proud to be a part of it... read more

Bluefin Tuna, Striped Bass, Bluefish, Flounder, Cod, Haddock and more!

June was a total washout making Massachusetts feel like the new Seattle. Thankfully the fishing has been a lot better than the weather around here so far this season. Bottom fishing for Cod and Haddock has been very good offshore this year. The month of May brought mackerel into our waters in large numbers. On just about any given day large schools could be found all along the south coast . The stripers were right behind the macs initially filling all up the rivers chasing herring. Now the stripers are up and down the coast in all the popular places. Using live maceral to target striped bass was productive and fun while the it lasted but by Fathers Day the mac's were harder to find. Flounder have been in the sandy areas just of the coast of Green Harbor for a few weeks now but you will surely hook a few skate before the day is over. Bluefin Tuna are in the bay and all around Stellwegan Bank now. The Tuna are generally larger this year there are also large schools footballs around. Great news to see the football sized Tuna as this is the future of the Tuna fishery.

The ocean is an incredible place. It is hard to explain what it is like to see a school of pilot whales pass by or a breaching Humpback Whale dwarf your boat when you least expect it.  Basking Sharks, Humpback Whales, Finback Whales, Pilot Whales, Right Whales, Harbor Seals, Atlantic Sunfish, and an endless variety of other sea creatures can be found regularly.  Bluefin Tuna schools that pass through every season.

Check out The Captain's Blog - Green Harbor MA, it catalogs much of my vessels activity.  You will find some useful fishing and boating tips, lobster facts and recipes, as well as a few interesting photos here.  The site is always growing.  The goal is to create an extensive fishing resource that will include fishing tackle tips and methods, fishing areas, useful marine knots, and lots more as well as links to many other useful fishing and fisherman resources.
